Optilab server laboratory
Optilab is a provincial initiative aimed at optimizing and centralizing medical biology laboratory services across the health and social services network. It is based on the establishment of server laboratories capable of consolidating, on a single site, activities that were previously dispersed across multiple facilities.
In this context, the CISSS de la Montérégie-Centre developed its server laboratory in Saint-Bruno-de-Montarville, designed to serve all major facilities in the region. Strategically located near major road corridors, the site ensures efficient coverage across a vast territory.
The 6,130 m² building brings together biochemistry, hematology, microbiology, and pathology-cytology activities under one roof. The first autonomous biomedical laboratory outside a hospital setting built under the Optilab program in Quebec, it represents a significant evolution in the organization of health services.
The project is organized directly around processes and workflows. From sample reception to processing, spaces are arranged according to a clear and continuous logic, promoting operational fluidity and an intuitive reading of the building. This rigorous organization allows for optimal use of space while supporting the precision and speed of analyses.
The workspaces, bright and functional, offer conditions suited to a highly technical environment while promoting user comfort. The architecture, deliberately restrained and controlled, translates this logic into a clear and legible composition. The massing expresses the different components of the program, while visual openings and natural light contribute to the quality of the interior environments.
Conceived as a rigorous and high-performing infrastructure, the project is grounded in an approach where simplicity becomes a lever for reducing environmental impact. Through its compactness and integrated design, it offers a sustainable and efficient response to the contemporary challenges of the health network. The centralization of activities optimizes resources, reduces transportation, and improves the overall performance of services provided to the population.
